Below is an example setup of the RCTA 3D printed checkpoint which is available for download inthe RCTA webstore here:

To make the boom gate operational you will need a length of Evergreen styrene tube 7.9 mm in diameter along with this micro servo from Hobbyking

The servo fits nicely into one of the boom supports and you can use some masking tape to cover over and paint. Given that this is a printed part you can even fill with putty and should the servo fail it is a simple matter of getting a new servo and reprinting another part.

This servo is fitted with a JST 1.25mm 3 pin connector. Fortunately you can get the male connector pre soldered to a 3 way cable readily on ebay.

This mini servo operates on 3-4 volts and hence can be powered by a single cell Lipo. The LiPo below is what I have chosen as it come with a JST plug attached and is small enough to be fitted in the roof of the hut.

In my case I have chosen to control the boom gate via a radio and hence needed a receiver which will also operate on 3-4 volts and be small enough to fit inside the hut. The FrSky XMR is a perfect choice.

Image

As you can see the XMR requires some soldering. A male JST-PH 2 pin plug is soldered to some wires and then to the V+ and V0 pads on the XMR to allow for connection of the battery. Next you can then solder your 3 way JST 1.25 cable to the XMR. V+ to V+, V0 to V0 and now make a decision as to what channel you want to use 1-6 and solder the yellow signal wire to that pad on the XMR.

In my case I will be having a setup on my radio that will control all of my gates and extra devices. NOTE you can bind more that one FrSky receiver to a particular model setup

These small components can easily fit into the hut. The gate is then activated by a switch on your radio. Using ER9X I have set the source as FULL (you need at least 90 degrees of travel) and set the speed up and speed down parameters to what looks good. Here is my mix for operation using the ELE switch on the 9X series radios running er9x

Source FULL
Weight -100%
Switch ELE
Slow Down 6
Slow Up 6
