The MANTA LCD board provides a visual display of settings and parameters for many RCTA units. Using a MANTA makes the setup and trouble shooting of comaptible products a breeze. Combined with a MAKO the Manta LCD will provide real time updates of IR battle stats such as number of hits, type of IR hit, shells left in magazine and the battle unit ID of enemy tanks.
The MANTA diagnostic LCD board has been updated for 2017 to also include a connection for a FTDI breakout board thereby adding a programmer function to the unit.
The option for sale here is a complete assembled unit including LCD, FTDI breakout board and associated cables. Because of the size of the complete unit free postage is not available.
Basically the board is divided into two halves. On the left is the LCD section and the the right the Programmer section.
The 3 pin header on the left provides the input for the LCD. A standard servo cable is used for the connection. The signal pin is the pin closest to the centre of the board. To connect simply use the servo cable to connect the MANTA input to any MANTA output on your RCTA board (MAKO, Asp, Sirvoe, etc.) Power for the LCD is provided via your connected RCTA unit.
Above the LCD input is a trimpot that controls the contrast of the LCD.
On the bottom of the board are two slide switches. The smaller switch turns on or off the LCD backlight. The larger switch is for the programmer. If switch is set to the left the programmer will program the MANTA MCU. When set to the right the programmer will program externally connected RCTA units.
On the right side of the board are 2 different program cable connections for connecting to your external RCTA units that you wish to program.
NOTE: For those with a bit of tech knowledge... The MANTA 2017 features an onboard signal inverter and hence one does not have to program their FTDI boards with FTProg for inverted RX & TX signals. They can be uses as is. The significant consequence of this is that the unit also works with the cheap Chinese counterfeit FTDI chips. RCTA does not condone the use of counterfeit chips but if you have been sucked into buying some they "should" work with MANTA 2017.
