That looks pretty cool and the smoker seems to be a real space saver. Should work well with minor modification in a KT or a Panther as well.

Upper floor now complete, it’s now time to start cutting some MDF...
Thanks for the bay window Kevin, it matches the other windows brilliantly 👍

Looking good, just out of interest Wayne what width did all of your prints end up being?
My assembled top floor came to 986mm in width and that is in ABS with all my sections printed vertically. I'd be interested to know what your dimensions ended up given horizontal printing.

IF you paln to take the Rathaus outside what is your plan for waterproofing the MDF??? I must admit I have not thought that far ahead.

Hmmm, that’s weird, mine came to 979mm wide using PLA.

I had to add 11mm of extra material between the spacers to get the spacer level the same width as the top level.

As for waterproofing I’m going to use this water based resin, quite a few of the RC boat guys over here rave about it as it has no smell, I’m worried that it’s water based but I’ll let you know how it goes.

Apart from corners lifting I was very surprised that everything lined up. Did not have to add any spacers BUT I will need filler.

As for the water proofing - of course that sealer is not something common here. Probably the actual material is but marketed under what name is the question.

Hey Rathausers

Easter School holidays has only slowed Rathaus reporting - not printing or making new bits. My original plan was for MDF to form the main walls of all but the top floor. However, I still wanted bits where the render has been blasted off to reveal the brickwork underneath. This would involve printing brick panels to inlay into the MDF (which I will do at some point). Now my woodworking tools and skills leave a lot to be desired so I came up with the idea of printing 3mm "veneers" for the bottom floor. Gluing these onto the front of the MDF will hide my poor woodwork :) and provide the detail wanted.

The April 17th update will contain these 7 veneer files. Numbers 2-6 can be printed flat whilst the corners 1 & 7 can be printed upright. As you can see from the pics above you can glue them together to form a single sheet using the base bricks for strength. My printer would not let me print the veneers as high as I think they should be so in the coming days I will design an intervening layer which will also double up as a level join. Although two floor looks good three floors may look even more impressive. If the existing top floor and bottom floor and be connected using a removable joint then that opens the possibility of adding a third floor at a later date.

Hi Wayne

As for the actual flooring for the top floor I plan to use some 2/3 mm MDF which I will attach to the underside of the new joiner parts which I emailed out this morning. The joiners glue onto the underside of the top floor spacers. The MDF sheet will then get glued and screwed into the lip made by the joiner. So top floor walls and floor will be one piece. The top floor can then sit on the lower floor with the overhang of the joiners covering the joint. I will have to do more detailed phots but below is where I am at - Almost to painting :)
